Mountain Bikers Earn State Honors

More than 30 Dripping Springs ISD secondary students competed in the 2017 state championships and two students placed among the top competitors in the state, while the high school and middle school teams finished seventh and eighth, respectively.

Competition in the Texas Interscholastic Mountain Bike League consists of a series of five races, that was topped off with the Comfort Climb April 29. State honors are determined based on cumulative scoring in all races.

Sophomore Ben Marsan placed first in the state in the Sophomore Boys division, while sister Katelynne Marsan was seventh in the Varsity Girls category. Katelynne also contributed the highest number of points throughout the season to the team total.

Four middle school students also placed among the top 10 competitors in their age groups. Among seventh-grade girls, Bella Wilson was fifth and Kiersten Wilson was sixth. On the boys' side, Micah Sherrill was sixth in the sixth-grade division and Dominic Garafolo was eighth among seventh-graders.

According to season team totals Dripping Springs High School placed seventh in a 25-team field. The middle school squad was eighth in a field of 19 teams.

This is just the second year that students from Dripping Springs ISD have competed as a team in competitive mountain biking.
