Eleven Dripping Springs High School swimmers qualified for the UIL 6A State Meet after competing at the Region VII-6A Championships on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Josh Davis Natatorium in San Antonio.
Grace Rabb captured a pair of regional titles in the 100 yard backstroke (54.31) and 200 yard IM (1:59.68) to earn Region Swimmer of the Meet and lead the girls’ team to a fourth-place finish with 225 points. Rabb also anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay to a state-qualifying performance, joining Laurel Hoskovec, Lexi Landrum and Izzy Boldrick for a time of 3:31.03. The quartet of Rabb, Landrum, Macie McCurry and Sidney Blake also advanced to state after timing 1:47.59 in the 200 yard medley relay.
Hoskovec qualified for the state meet in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:03.82, and anchored the 200 yard freestyle relay to a state appearance with McCurry, Landrum and Fairlane Bynum in 1:37.40.
For the boys, Zach Collins timed 51.05 in the 100 yard backstroke to punch his ticket to state. Collins also joined Landon Bucher, Connor Caffrey and Nathan Nolan for a third-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a school-record time of 1:24.95. As a team, the Tigers placed eighth with 139 points.
The UIL 6A State Meet will be held Feb. 21-22 at the Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin.
