As we continue our journey through the 7 Habits, we want to take a moment to celebrate the growth we’ve seen in our students. In February, we focused on Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, learning the importance of listening with empathy before responding. Encouraging children to truly hear others’ perspectives helps build stronger relationships both in and out of the classroom.
Looking ahead to March, we will explore Habit 6: Synergize, which teaches students the power of teamwork and valuing others’ strengths. Synergizing is all about working together to create something better than we could on our own! We look forward to sharing ways you can reinforce this habit at home.
Thank you for your continued support in growing young leaders!

We appreciate your partnership in making this another wonderful week at school! Your support, encouragement, and involvement mean so much to our students and staff. Thank you for helping us create a positive and engaging learning environment where our students can grow, lead, and succeed.
DSE’s Spring Book Exchange is coming up soon! Beginning on Tuesday, February 18th, students may bring gently used books from home, in a bag labeled with his/her name, to Mrs. Miller in the CL&I. Each book donated gives that student a credit. Families are invited to the Book Exchange in the DSE CL&I on Monday, March 3rd from 5:00 pm-6:30 pm. Students will be invited to spend their “credits” and choose different books to take home and enjoy. This is a great way to clear off your bookshelves at home and get some new reading material. Please email rebecca.miller@dsisdtx.us with any questions or concerns and we hope to see you there!
Is your child enjoying the Texas Bluebonnet Books this year? Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade students have been invited to read books from the Texas Bluebonnet list and complete an activity from this menu. Activities can be submitted to Mrs. Miller in the CL&I. If your child completes eight activities, they earn a spot at our DSE Bluebonnet Celebration at the end of the year. Happy reading!

We are so grateful for your ongoing support and partnership in your child’s education. Your encouragement at home makes a tremendous difference in their growth and success at school. Thank you for all you do—we value and appreciate you!
The leadership habit we are focusing on is Habit 5: Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood. This habit encourages students to listen with empathy, truly seeking to understand others before sharing their own thoughts. At home, you can support this habit by modeling active listening—pausing to hear your child’s thoughts and feelings before responding. Asking open-ended questions like “Tell me more about that” or “What do you think should happen next?” can help them feel valued and understood.
On Friday, February 14, our classrooms will have a special Valentine’s Day celebration together as a class. This will be a fun and meaningful time for students to enjoy with their teachers and classmates. While we love our families, this event will be just for students. Thank you for your understanding and support!
Student and Staff Holiday, Monday, February 17. Enjoy the 3 day weekend!
As we move through the school year, this is a great time to review and update your child's emergency contact information. Keeping this information current ensures we can reach you or a designated contact quickly if needed. If any changes are needed, please update your records through Skyward Family Access at your earliest convenience. Thank you for your attention to this important detail!
February 19 at 3:15 pm our Campus Advisory Council meets and we will host a public forum for parents to give feedback for the team to consider as we continue to strive for excellence.

This month, we are focusing on Habit 3: Put First Things First.. Our school has been talking about "Big Rocks," which represent the most important tasks, activities, and goals we need to prioritize. By learning to identify and focus on these "Big Rocks," students are developing skills in time management, responsibility, and goal-setting.
You can support this lesson at home by asking your child, “What are your Big Rocks this week?” Encourage them to share what they feel are their most important goals and tasks, whether it’s completing homework, practicing a skill, or spending quality time with family. This is a great way for them to start thinking about how to put their priorities first.

At Dripping Springs Elementary, we are focusing on Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind, and our discussions have centered around the importance of goal setting. To support your child’s learning journey, I encourage you to ask them: “What is one thing that could make the biggest difference in how well you learn?”
This simple question can open up meaningful conversations about their goals, challenges, and what steps they can take to improve. It’s a great way to reinforce the habit of thinking ahead and taking ownership of their learning. Thank you for being such wonderful partners in helping our students grow!
Please avoid parking in the first two rows in the front parking lot. We kindly request that families back in and park in the last two rows to help with the traffic flow. Thank you so much for your ongoing support!

As we learn about being PROACTIVE this month we use the following example for students: When you are PROACTIVE, you act like a water bottle. Even when you get shaken up or upset, you stay calm and don’t explode! When you are REACTIVE, you act like a soda bottle. When something goes wrong, you do not stay calm and in control. You get mad and EXPLODE on someone or something. As a family, brainstorm strategies that help us stay calm.
