Four Dripping Springs High School wrestlers qualified for the UIL 6A State Tournament after placing in the top four of their respective weight classes at the Region IV-6A Championship on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Delco Center in Austin.
Junior Jackson Shipley earned a second consecutive regional title, this time in the 113-pound weight class, with a 9-2 decision in the championship match. Shipley, the reigning state runner-up in the 106 class, advances to his third state tournament with a 28-2 record on the season.
Senior Cole Sides, who is 33-1 on the season, also finished atop the regional standings by taking first in the 126 weight class. Sides claimed his first regional title en route to qualifying for his third state appearance.
In the 175 weight class, junior Caleb Collins captured the final qualifying spot to advance to his first state tournament. The varsity newcomer enters the state competition with a 25-14 record.
For the girls, freshman Lucy Clarno recorded a fall less than two minutes into her bronze medal match to finish third in the 120 weight class. Her 40 victories on the season rank second in the school record books.
As a team, the boys finished third with 108.5 points behind San Antonio Johnson (153.5) and Austin Vandegrift (151.5) while the girls placed ninth.
The UIL 6A State Tournament will be held Feb. 14-15 at the Berry Center in Houston.
