2025 UIL Wrestling Champions - Jackson Shipley, Lucy Clarno

The Dripping Springs High School wrestling program delivered a historic performance at the UIL 6A State Tournament on Saturday at the Berry Center in Cypress, with junior Jackson Shipley and freshman Lucy Clarno each claiming state titles in their respective weight classes.

For the first time in program history, the Tiger wrestlers came away with multiple titles at a state tournament to add to their six previous individual championships. Clarno also forever etched her name in school history by becoming the first girl's state wrestling champion in her debut season.

After capturing state runner-up honors in the 106-pound weight class in 2024, Shipley entered the state tournament as the Region 4 champion in the 113 weight class. He recorded a fall in his opening round matchup and followed with a pair of major decision victories to advance to the title match. In the championship, Shipley faced off against reigning state champion Cayden Campbell of Allen but came away with a 7-3 decision to clinch his first title.

In the 120-pound weight class, Clarno kicked off her state title run with a fall in her opening match. She then dominated her next two contests, securing major decisions, including a 10-1 victory over Vanessa De La Cruz of College Park, avenging a loss from earlier in the season. After suffering just her second loss of the season the previous week at the regional tournament, Clarno faced Region 4 champion Mila Juarez of San Marcos in the title match. Clarno emerged victorious, defeating Juarez with an 11-5 decision to claim the championship.

Senior Cole Sides also earned a spot on the podium by placing fifth in the 126 weight class. The regional champion earned victories in his first two matches before falling to four-time state champion Isaak Arevalo of Arlington Martin.

Shipley finished with a 32-2 record on the season while Sides closed out his career with a 36-3 mark in his final campaign. The duo led Dripping Springs to a tie for 10th as a team with 39 points.

Clarno tallied a 44-2 season record with her 26 points helping the Tigers place 20th at the state tournament.
