Dripping Springs High School track and field’s Adeline Spies and Izzy Crew earned berths to the UIL 6A State Meet following record-breaking and regional title performances at the Region IV-6A Championships at Heroes Stadium in San Antonio.
Spies, a junior pole vaulter, shattered her school record mark in the event with a height of 12 feet to finish in first place. Spies cleared the 12-foot bar on her first attempt to surpass her previous record by half a foot and secure a state berth for the first time in her career.
Meanwhile, Crew, a freshman competing in the Wheelchair Division, captured the regional title in all three events to qualify for the state meet. She won the shot put by more than four feet with a throw of 17 feet nine inches. Crew also set Region 4 stadium records on the track with times of 18.38 and 1:06.10 in the 100 and 400 meters, respectively.
Crew will compete at the UIL State Meet on Friday, May 2 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, while Spies will follow on Saturday, May 3.
